Thanks for reading and commenting. Obviously I agree with you wholeheartedly, the stigma against DID in particular is rife- I like to think I’m challenging it by telling my story.
Hello – Just found your brilliant blog. I’m a 43-year-old gay man living in Edinburgh with my dog. I’m on the DD to DID spectrum weighted heavily towards the DID end. My dog isn’t. You are not only bloody funny, but a voice of truth in a truly dystopian system. Can’t wait to read more and without sounding like some cyber-stalker…let me know if you fancy a chat on the phone or meeting for a coffee? I think we’d have a lot to talk about!
I just began to follow your blog. Wow….what a brilliant blog, wish I`d found it a long time ago.
You`re right, the stigma/ingnorance/professional denialism (if that`s a real word?) is awful when it comes to dissociative disorders, which is really tough to deal with when living in the UK, where it seems to be typical that Mental Health professionals can state that they `don`t believe in` dissociation.
Sorry, before this turns into a big long rant I`ll stop myself. But thanks for a brilliant blog.
Brokenbeyondrepair: some MH bods do recognise that dissociative disorders are a thing; a number of my ex-young people were well on the way to a full-on DID (regardless of what ICD-10 doesn’t say).
thank-you for your kind comments. It’s heartening to see a MH professional (albeit an ex one) who did/does recognise dissociative disorders as I’ve encountered and continue to encounter very few who do. I do however hope to change this in some small way if I can and I see you’ve joined me on twitter so perhaps we can stay in touch?
